Avalanche Airbag on an Airplane?  Well....

As the ski season starts to wind up in the United States, you may be planning a trip outside of the country to continue to enjoy this sport. There are several different destinations around the world where it makes it possible to ski year round. If you have never traveled outside of the United States on a ski vacation, or if you have been numerous times, always remember to pack your ABS avalanche airbag with your other ski equipment. Avalanches can occur anywhere, regardless of where you ski.

Can an ABS Avalanche Airbag be Taken on an Airplane?
In a short answer, yes and no.  Your Avalanche Airbag can be taken on a plane; however, the ABS canister/cartridge cannot be taken onto a plane in the United States. If you are traveling in Canada or internationally, and are not stopping within the United States, many airlines allow you to carry the fully charged cartridge on the plane. Just remember to contact the airline ahead of time and find out what you need to do.

Other brands of Avalanche Airbag canisters (such as SnowPulse, Mammut, and BCA) may be taken onto a plane if the canister is empty and the top of the canister has been removed so that TSA can see inside of the canister to verify it is empty.

A new type of Airbag made by Black Diamond doesn't require any gas supply, just runs on batteries, so this may be your best choice for an Airbag which you will be traveling with.
